Lifeline Inishowen is a community-based charity serving the Inishowen Peninsula, dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by domestic abuse, emotional distress, trauma, and isolation. Established in 1996 our charity provides accessible, confidential, and trauma informed counselling, crisis support, and community outreach programmes.

We are a registered not-for-profit or, governed by a voluntary Board of Directors, with a small team of qualified counsellors and trained volunteers. Our focus is on inclusion, empowerment, and early intervention for those most at risk of poor mental health outcomes and domestic abuse.

Lifeline Inishowen provides a vital frontline response to domestic abuse and related mental health and wellbeing needs across the Inishowen peninsula in County Donegal.

Inishowen is a largely rural area with limited access to specialist domestic abuse and counselling services. Many individuals experiencing abuse, trauma, or severe emotional distress face additional barriers due to isolation, transport difficulties, stigma, and lack of local services.

Demand for support continues to increase, particularly in the areas of: Domestic violence crisis intervention, Counselling and therapeutic support, Child and family wellbeing supports, Mental health and emotional distress.

Service users often present with complex needs, including trauma, anxiety, depression, financial dependency, and housing insecurity. Without early intervention and localised support, these issues can escalate, placing additional pressure on statutory health and emergency services.

Lifeline Inishowen plays a critical role in filling this gap by providing: Immediate crisis support and safety planning, Accessible counselling services for adults and children, Advocacy and practical assistance, Community-based wellbeing and recovery programmes.

The organisation is often the first point of contact for individuals seeking help, and the only local service available.
